New to Ribby Hall Village...

NEW Hypnotherapy Treatments at The Spa Hotel, Ribby

Wow - How time flies when you are having fun. I can't believe we are moving into autumn already and its two months ago since my last post! A lot has been happening at Calm & Contented Towers... I am delighted and excited to announce that I am now practicing Hypnotherapy at Ribby Hall Village, Preston. It is a truly spectacular place to work with a wonderful, friendly set of people - and an even better place to unwind and relax! Where else are you greeted by ducks and a beautiful fountain - it really sets the scene for relaxing visualisation.

The Hypnotherapy Clinic is primarily based in the Wellness Suite. This gives you the opportunity to unwind prior to their treatment with a drink and piece of fruit. After the one hour - tailored hypnotherapy session, you will be taken to one of the spa relaxation rooms. Either the enchanting dark room or quiet rooms looking out over rural Preston - this gives you time for reflection and an opportunity to gather their thoughts.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a whole range of clinic issues and many visitors to Ribby are already feeling the benefits: Anxiety, Insomnia, Weight Control, Infertility, IBS, Smoking Cessation are most in demand - but hypnotherapy can also help more obscure issues. Please feel free to ask...

The number of sessions required range from one to six and beyond - it all depends on your requirements. Your wellbeing is our absolute number one priority and Calm & Contented Hypnotherapy aims to make the most dramatic change in the shortest and safest time possible.

The Hypnotherapy Clinic runs on Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday. For more information or to book please contact The Spa at Ribby 01772 671 111 or hypnotherapy@calmandcontented.co.uk

Look forward to seeing you soon

Hypnobirthing is AMAZING!!!

Hypnobirthing on One Born Every Minute

#Oneborn

Last night on Channel 4, One Born Every Minute gave Mums-to-be the chance to see how is it completely possible to have a calm and relaxing birth. I must admit One Born isn't my regular viewing, as I believe it fuels fear and reaffirms to women that the should be birthing on their back (This is not the case!).

An active birth can really help women have a quicker labour - if you think about it logically, you are working with gravity as opposed to 'pushing up hill' when on your back. Nadine demonstrated beautifully 'how it should be done' using Natal Hypnotherapy™ techniques. She used the birth ball demonstrating how gravity can help the baby gain an optimum position.

Unfortunately due to editing, not all of the techniques were shown on last nights program, but Nadine's birth was undeniably magical and empowering. Certainly when contrasted to other adrenaline fuelled births in the series. It would have been nice to see 321 relax in action, birth music and so on...

Birth Partner

Last nights episode of One Born focused on the importance of the birth partner. The people that a birthing women meets along the way is integral to her state of mind. Positive support can make all the difference. It was evident that all the birth partners on the show were very loving, but as one midwife stated it is difficult for a birth partner to know how he fits in...

Natal Hypnotherapy™ birth preparation dedicates an entire section to helping the Dad-to-be understand how he can be actively involved in birth and in essence - be useful! Nadine had a calm and peaceful water birth. Paul, her partner chose to get into the pool. That is personal choice - Natal Hypnotherapy™ never prescribes what should or shouldn't be done or, what you are or are not allowed to do. The course is focused around empowering the couple to have a positive experience and deal with labour and birth - no matter how it unfolds.

I hope that for any pregnant women that were viewing - that they are inspired to find out more about hypnobirthing.

Calm & Contented Birthing

It is completely possible to have a positive birth experience. It is such a shame that in today's culture there is the expectation that birth is going to be a scary and horrendous ordeal. Birth is such a precious thing and in my personal opinion (and the 100,000's of women who have used Natal Hypnotherapy™) it can be a wonderful, bonding and empowering event for both Mum and Dad. Even the midwifery staff on the unit were effected by the magic of Natal Hypnotherapy™ - some almost baffled by Nadine's approach and the depth of her relaxed state and in tears at the beauty of the moment.

Wishing you a Calm & Contented Birth Experience

Smoking Cessation Blackpool

Stop Smoking

"When you were very young and your feet grew, then your shoes began to squeeze and the squeezing let you know it was time to give up the old shoes, because they didn't fit you any more. Smoking squeezes peoples' lungs, hearts, skins and money. When it's time to be free, it's a relief, not a hardship" Roger Elliott
Stop Smoking with Hypnosis

Smoking Cessation for Pregnancy (and beyond)

Hypnosis can help to break habits and rid yourself of old beliefs. There are many reasons to stop smoking, the main reason for most is health with over 107,000 people dying of smoking related diseases each year.

Pregnant mums-to-be have an even greater incentive to quit. Not only for themselves, but for the health and wellbeing of their baby. Most people can become a non-smoker in one session, my scripts are tailored carefully to each client and their specific needs.

You may choose to stop today - think how much money you will have saved by the time your baby is born. Sessions at Calm & Contented Hypnotherapy are £75.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Someone told me the other day about someone she met on a train in Preston who had followed Hypnobirthing. Apparently the Hypnobirthing Mum-to-be was asked by the midwife to stop hypnosis as the pain was needed for her own safety. I'm not a midwife and I'm not medically trained so if anyone else could shed some light onto these comments I would appreciate it!

Hypnosis is a natural form of pain control. I think maybe medical staff who don't know about it might feel a little threatened if they are out of their depth? It is common for medical staff to be caught out by a birthing mother who is so calm and contented that the medical staff don't realise how imminent birth is!!

Going back to the train lady. If pain was a measure to keep her safe, what would happen if she had pethedine or an epidural? I wish I had more information!

I think midwives in general are becoming more accepting to 'alternative' methods of pain relief. Natal Hypnotherapy™ has actually just received accreditation from the Royal College of Midwives, so there shouldn't be any issue about using Natal Hypnotherapy™ techniques. I think the more midwives that see the results of a Natal Hypnotherapy™ birth can only be a good thing, restoring their faith in the abilities of women they attend to.

Natal Hypnotherapy™ doesn't guarantee a pain free labour, but is more about how women are able to manage the experience. In the following article midwife Mary McCallan at Altnegelvin Hospital, Northern Ireland discusses her experiences of Natal Hypnotherapy™ from a personal and professional perspective.

Preston Royal - Home from Home

Preston Mum's will soon be given the opportunity to give birth in a brand new midwifery-led birth centre at Preston Royal Hospital. A midwifery-led centre tends to offer more homely and relaxing environment than a hospital. Away from medicalised procedure midwives are able to offer a women-centred approach conducive to natural birth.
The centre is to offer en-suite rooms, a number of birthing pools and overnight accommodation for the birthing partner: enabling support and bonding in the precious first hours of the baby's life.
More about opening dates to follow...
