Anxiety: the unseen enemy

The Unseen Enemy

Anxiety is the unseen enemy of the mind. I remember as a child how my old Grandmother would tell me how she suffered with her nerves. At the age of 40 she was advised by her GP: “Take up smoking – it will calm you down.” Incredible! That was obviously years ago and now a days it is more likely that seeking the same help she would be prescribed with anti-depressants or other therapy.
Of course as a hypnotherapist, the first thing I will tell you is that I am not a GP and for any health concern your GP should be the first port of call. More and more clients that I see today seek help from hypnotherapy because they are becoming wise the plethora of alternative treatments available and prefer to seek out a natural alternative. Many GP’s are also becoming aware of alternative therapy available and are now referring or recommending patients to take CBT, hypnotherapy, exercise or massage as a way of dealing with stress, anxiety and tension.
Anxiety can manifest in so many different ways. It can be responsible for reoccurring thoughts, uncomfortable emotions and even lead to physical discomfort and illness – for example IBS. Hypnotherapy is a direct antidote to anxiety as the hypnotic experience is in essence deep relaxation.
As the in-house hypnotherapist at The Spa Hotel, Ribby Hall, I am trained to help you understand how the brain works and how anxiety can be at the heart of the formation of many habits and behavioural issues – for example nail biting, hair pulling, over eating and so on.  More importantly, I am able to teach you techniques to break those chains, develop your own self awareness and find your path to positivity. The following testimonial speaks volumes:

Gemma is simply amazing at what she does. I have had 4 sessions of Hypnotherapy to help me "regain control" of my mind, choose better reactions and combat ongoing anxiety and palpitations. And my, has it worked. I started to feel calmer after the very first session, but the third session was a big turning point for me. With treatment now finished, I can quite honestly say that I feel generally calm most of the time, and I react much better (in that I am able to STOP, and choose how to react if I start to feel any chaos descending). This is such a huge achievement in such a short space of time. Also, I don't have palpitations (which were horrendous) and that nauseous anxiety feeling is gone. Very well done to you Gemma - you've changed my life - thank you.
Anxiety does not have to be a unseen enemy. Hypnotherapy can allow you to regain a sense of balance, happiness and wellbeing in your life.

As a therapist this can sometimes you feeling a little frazzled at the end of the day, but the satisfaction of knowing the difference I have made makes it all worthwhile!

"Gemma is an amazing hypnotherapist. I am attending her therapy course for relaxation each week and find I them beneficial to my well being in many ways. Gemma is reassuring and friendly. Her voice is like a salve!

You can now enjoy a blissful hour of Relaxation and Baby Bonding with me Gemma Webster, in-house hypnotherapist at Ribby Spa. There are many benefits of pregnancy relaxation: time out can really give you the opportunity to feel refreshed and restored.

Why not combine a pregnancy massage with hypnotherapy and really spoil yourself!

Hypnotherapy takes you in to a state of rest and repair giving you and your baby a well earned break away from the stresses of life. Calm & Contented Hypnotherapy specialises in hypnosis for birth and will work with you to address any specific concerns and alleviate anxiety. The amazing effects of hypnosis can really help to reduce aches and tenderness, reduce blood pressure and even alleviate morning sickness - ultimately promoting a positive mind set for pregnancy and birth.

“As a hypnobirthing Mum, I have firsthand experience of the difference that hypnotherapy can make. Both of my babies were Calm & Contented! I truly believe that they were born already conditioned to relax. I practiced hypnosis so often during pregnancy that my babies had heard the same relaxing music in the womb and felt my own relaxation response many times. After birth, they both settled really well whenever they heard the same track. Music is such powerful and emotional trigger especially when combined with hypnotic techniques. Of course I am bias, but I can’t recommend hypnotherapy enough!” Gemma Webster

Pregnancy Calm is specifically designed for time out and baby bonding. Calm & Contented Hypnotherapy also offers a Hypnobirthing program for natural birth preparation. For more information email hypnotherapy@calmandcontented.co.uk

NEW Hypnotherapy Treatments at The Spa Hotel, Ribby

Wow - How time flies when you are having fun. I can't believe we are moving into autumn already and its two months ago since my last post! A lot has been happening at Calm & Contented Towers... The Hypnotherapy Clinic is primarily based in the Wellness Suite. This gives you the opportunity to unwind prior to their treatment with a drink and piece of fruit. After the one hour - tailored hypnotherapy session, you will be taken to one of the spa relaxation rooms. Either the enchanting dark room or quiet rooms looking out over rural Preston - this gives you time for reflection and an opportunity to gather their thoughts.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a whole range of clinic issues and many visitors to Ribby are already feeling the benefits: Anxiety, Insomnia, Weight Control, Infertility, IBS, Smoking Cessation are most in demand - but hypnotherapy can also help more obscure issues. Please feel free to ask...

The Art of Positive Thinking

Think it.

Believe it.

Be it.

If you are looking to make a positive change in your life, hypnotherapy may be an option for you. Whether it be stopping smoking, feeling less anxious, losing weight...Hypnotherapy is tried and tested and can certainly help.

The first thing to know is that you need to be on board with your change - 100% committed to what you are hoping to achieve. Hypnotherapy probably isn't for you if you have a vague idea that you would like to lose a few pounds, but aren't really bothered either way... It is crucial that you have a clear, achievable and positive goal before setting off on your journey to change. A good hypnotherapist will help you to identify and focus upon a realistic set of goals - so that the wheels of change can be put into motion.

The other thing is to maintain a positive perspective - you might continue to dwell on the 10 Big Mac meals you have eaten this week and hold on to the shame of the state of your body - but this really it not helpful on any level. Hypnotherapy can help you release old emotion and help to boost positivity. Really dwelling on the problem only serves to magnify it, so all that happens is that the problem seems much larger than it is. It makes much more sense and it is much more effective to focus on what you want to achieve. So in the instance of weight control having a clear idea of how much you would like to lose each week, the types of foods that you would like to be eating, focusing on your new svelete figure and the types of activities you will be doing is so much more constructive than dragging yourself down - A positive mindset is the difference between stagnating - staying the same - and feeling rubbish or achieving your goals - feeling energised - and being awesome!

Pick up any magazine and you can read about positive thinking - so much so that 'positive thinking' has almost become cliche. The thing is, neuroscience now teaches us that positive thinking can chemically help us to have a greater sense of wellbeing - positive thoughts create the wonderful hormones such as serotonin and endorphins which are directly responsible to how you feel. There is nothing woo woo about it! Positive thoughts can really impact on your life. 'Change your thoughts - change your life'. Ha. Sounds easy doesn't it, but in reality that positivity switch can need an almighty flick to make a change to your well worn mindset. Conscious positive thought can really help, but it is hypnotherapy that really makes a that subconscious difference.
